In Vitro Germination and Propagation of Dyckia brevifolia, An Ornamental and Endangered Bromeliad

Dyckia brevifolia is an endangered plant used for ornamental purposes. As no references to the in vitro propagation of species exist, present study aims at investigating possibility efficient micropropagation protocol. Seeds collected from mother plants were germinated high percentages (84–86%) a range 15–25 °C, without any pre-treatment, and demonstrated their highest germination speed index (191.51) 25 °C. In vitro-grown seedlings as starting material on solid, or liquid, MS medium, supplemented with variety concentrations cytokinins (BA, KIN 2IP). Shoots leaves explants. Liquid media BA 2IP 1.0 mg L−1 led multiplication rate 2.7, 2.3, lateral shoots regenerated while percentage (77.5%) rooting occurred same time. Rooted microshoots acclimatised ex 100% transplanted pots where they grew survival after two months. The protocol presented this could enhance large-scale use D. and, simultaneously, contribute ex-situ conservation species.
